THE FIZZ: How Modern Student Residences Are Using WeWash

Bye bye mum’s house, hello student residence THE FIZZ: The International Campus GmbH has long recognised that young people in European cities today have very different expectations of their accommodation. THE FIZZ brand offers contemporary living for students, trainees and young professionals. Combining modern, fully-furnished apartments, communal areas and additional services, THE FIZZ creates a unique all-in-one living concept that meets both the needs of young residents and the demands of urban living. 

In a number of European cities, THE FIZZ provides innovative residences that impress with their décor, comfort and functionality. Residents of THE FIZZ properties also find as many amenities as possible under one roof: from study rooms, games rooms, a cinema lounge and a gym to a communal laundry room with plenty of washing machines and dryers. The latter is equipped and maintained by WeWash at THE FIZZ Utrecht and other locations.

With its digital and sustainable solution for washing and drying, WeWash fits perfectly into the service and sustainability-oriented concept of the International Campus. Other properties of the co-living provider, such as THE FIZZ Freiburg and Aachen in Germany, have already successfully used WeWash’s services.

For the opening of THE FIZZ Utrecht in 2021, the International Campus has selected WeWash as their international partner for laundry room services. “The special feature is the multilingual WeWash App, which makes the washing process easier for our FIZZies, who come from more than 90 countries around the world,” explains Edward Klaassen, Residential Manager of THE FIZZ Utrecht.

No more laundry room in the basement: right next to the entrance on the ground floor of both towers of THE FIZZ Utrecht is a laundry room equipped by WeWash with six washing machines and six dryers. This is accessible at all times, so students can do their laundry around the clock without having to leave the building.

The slots can be booked easily via the WeWash App, through which users receive push notifications and can pay digitally after use without having to top up their credit in advance – among other methods by credit card, PayPal or Apple Pay. The system has been well received by the more than 1225 FIZZies so far: in particular, the digital queue in the WeWash App saves unnecessary trips to the laundry room and waiting times on site.

THE FIZZ Utrecht was a new building, which meant that the laundry room was still under construction at the time of planning and installation. This was a particular challenge for everyone involved, as the schedule was tight. The right time had to be found when the laundry was ready and the WeWash system could be installed. Despite the challenges, the project was successfully completed in time for the residents to move in. As a result, WeWash was available to the FIZZies from day one.
